About Functional Breathing Training

How we breathe is often the quickest reflection of the stress we are under. Under sustained stress, breathing often becomes faster, shallower, and more effortful, which can keep you in an activated state beyond stress and reduce recovery. Over time, this becomes your new breathing habit.

Training functional breathing is one of the fastest ways to reset your breathing patterns and positively influence your physical and psychological state.

This programme progressively retrains breathing: establishing a more functional baseline first, then integrating it into real-life work, sleep, stress, and movement.

This programme is ideal if you are:

This programme is not suitable if you are:

Severe sleep apnoea or breathing difficulties

Unable to commit to doing the home practice

Unable to commit to 6 x consecutive weekly sessions

* Because the training builds week by week, it’s important that you can commit to the home practice. As you learn new breathing patterns, you may occasionally notice mild discomfort.

Weekly Structure

  • 1 × 60-minute 1:1 session per week (online or in office)
  • Breathing training + the key science that makes it stick
  • Simple daily practice (10–20 minutes total)
  • Tracking + troubleshooting so you know you’re progressing
  • Manual to support learning between sessions

Total commitment over 6 weeks

  • 6 x 60 minute sessions 1:1 (online or in office)

  • 15-30 minutes daily practice

  • short reading recap per week
